Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta

Carlo Felice Bianchi Anderloni

Carlo “Cici” Anderloni was a young designer at Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, a company founded by his father, when he created the Barchetta (“little boat” in Italian) body style for Ferrari in 1948. Anderloni’s styling coupled with Ferrari’s powerplant and chassis engineering helped establish Ferrari as Italy’s elite builder of high-performance automobiles. Anderloni would go on to design many classic automobiles including the Aston Martin DB4 and DB5, the Maserati 3500 and the Jensen Interceptor.

Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta

Ferrari’s reputation for high performance and iconic styling arguably began with the 166 MM Barchetta, a beautiful automobile with the highest racing credentials. In 1949, the 166 MM became the first of several Ferrari designs over the years to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The letters MM stand for “Mille Miglia”, a race which Ferrari’s 166S had won for the first time the year before.
