Bernard Hooper

Bernard Hooper was an engineer and designer at several British motorcycle manufacturers. As Chief Engineer at Norton-Villiers from 1965 to 1974, Hooper led the development of the revolutionary Norton Commando 750 motorcycle with colleagues Stefan Bauer and Bob Trigg. With a novel frame design and “isolastic” engine mounting that reduced big-bike vibration, the Commando became a world-wide success during its production between 1967 and 1977.

The Commando was produced in several variants including the Fastback, the Street Scrambler and the Hi-Rider. The Production Racer model was a factory-standard, road-legal bike with certain racing components including the iconic yellow fairing and fuel tank. The Production Racer had significant racing success in the early 1970s. Fewer than 200 Production Racers were built and it has become the most collectible of all Norton Commandos.
