C50 Super Cub

Soichiro Honda

Soichiro Honda was a Japanese engineer and the founder of the Honda Motor Company. During a business trip to West Germany in 1956, he saw the popularity and functionality of scooters and small motorcycles. Upon his return to Japan, Honda designed a simple and inexpensive step-through hybrid – half scooter, half motorcycle – the C50 Super Cub light motorcycle.

C50 Super Cub

The impact of the C50 Super Cub on personal transportation has been likened to that of the Ford Model T and Volkswagen Beetle. More than 100 million Super Cubs have been built and not only is the Super Cub the most produced motor vehicle in history, it continues to be the world’s best-selling motorcycle more than 60 years after the first one rolled off the Honda assembly line in 1958. Production of the gas-powered Super Cub continues unabated and an electric version called the EV-Cub was recently introduced.
